EXPO Chicago 2022

For EXPO CHICAGO 2022, Rebecca Camacho Presents featured a solo exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Austin based artist Claire Oswalt. Known for subconscious-driven explorations on paper that are then meticulously recalibrated to sewn canvas duplicates, Oswalt’s works for EXPO are a concentration of dense and vibrant color on a grand scale. 

Lush and luminous, Oswalt’s abstract figurations blur perspective and proportion. Legible as either immersive environments or finely tuned details, the works retain a spirit of wildness at their core, and a suggestion of what hangs just outside of the painting’s frame. The technical precision of Oswalt’s practice expertly balances the loose fluidity of her visual surfaces.
