Biography

Max Jansons (b. 1974, New York, NY) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Jansons’ painting practice primarily focuses on the art historical genre of still-life, which he often expands upon through his use of both representational and abstract imagery. Jansons’ exquisite brushwork and deft handling of paint are also defining features of his work.

Jansons received his BFA from University of California, Los Angeles in 1996 and his MFA from Columbia University in 1998. Recent solo exhibitions include Rebecca Camacho Presents, San Francisco (2024;2019); Harper’s, East Hampton, NY (2022); There-There, Los Angeles (2018); Galerie Lefebvre et Fils, Paris (2018); and 5 Car Garage, Santa Monica (2016); amongst others.

He has been in group exhibitions at Harper’s Gallery, East Hampton, NY (2022); the Nassima Landau Foundation in Tel Aviv, Israel (2022); the Berkshire Botanical Garden, Stockbridge, MA (curated by Beth Rudin DeWoody) (2022); Louise Alexander Gallery, Porto Cervo, Italy (2021); and KARMA, New York (2020); amongst others. He received the DRA Fellowship, Columbia University, New York (1997-1998).
