Biography

Kyle Kilty (b. 1976, South Lake Tahoe CA) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Kilty’s richly textured paintings are made by layering modeling paste to the canvas and incising the surface with a screwdriver or other drawing implements, and are augmented by a layering of acrylic, oil paint, and gold leaf. 

Kilty received his BA from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1999 and his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2001. He has had solo exhibitions at the studio of Elliott Hundley, Los Angeles (2020); Kinkead Contemporary, Culver City (2008); Creative Artists Agency, Beverly Hills (2003); University of La Verne, La Verne (2002); and East Gallery, Claremont Graduate University, Claremont (2001); amongst others.

His work has been included in group exhibitions at Rebecca Camacho Presents, San Francisco (2024); Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Los Angeles (2024); the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2023); East Gallery, Claremont Graduate University, Claremont (2012); Torrance Art Museum, Torrance (2007); Riverside Art Museum, Riverside (2006); California State University, Fullerton (2006); amongst others. He was an artist-in-residence at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2002). His work is in the collections of the Nevada Museum of Art Reno, and the Creative Artist Agency, Los Angeles CA.
