Biography

Karin Gulbran (b. 1967, Seattle WA) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Through an economy of gestures and splashes of experimental glazes, Gulbran’s bird forms conjure complex emotive states. At the base of her squawking cranes, gestural drawings of fish, plant life, rabbits and other animals create an extensive narrative scene.

Gulbran received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1996 and her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1999. She has had solo exhibitions at MASSIMODECARLO, Paris, France (2024); Pierre Marie Giraud, Brussels, Belgium (2022); MASSIMODECARLO, London, UK (2021); China Art Objects Galleries, Los Angeles CA (2015); and White Columns, New York NY (2014); amongst others.
