Biography

Allison Schulnik (b. 1978, San Diego CA) lives and works in Sky Valley, CA. Schulnik's paintings focus on singular animals, speaking to the precarity of our shared existence by documenting the desert-dwellers and pets that live in and amongst her family home in the Southern California desert.

She received her BFA in experimental animation from the California Institute of the Arts in 2000. She has had solo exhibitions at P·P·O·W, New York NY (2022, 2020); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah GA (2022); Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City UT (2021); Galería Javier López & Fer Francés, Madrid Spain (2017); and the Flint Institute of Arts, Flint MI (2017); amongst others.

Her work has been included in group exhibitions at The Pit, Los Angeles CA (2024, 2023); Michael Benenveto, Los Angeles CA (2023); Galerie Hübner & Hübner, Frankfurt Germany (2023); September Gallery, Kinderhook NY (2023); and the Maine College of Art & Design, Portland ME (2022); amongst others. Her work is in the public collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) CA; the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH); Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo; Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park; and the Museum des Beaux Arts, Montreal; amongst others.
