Project Room: Marie Herwald Hermann
In conversation with Christy Matson’s textiles in "Never Done," are three ceramic sculptures by Danish born, Chicago-based artist Marie Herwald Hermann. Spotlighting ordinary, functional objects, Hermann gives weight to isolated moments of significance. In variance to the often mundane and utilitarian use of clay, Hermann creates boldly saturated, impeccably rendered domestic items to highlight the automatic nature of modern life, the things owned and used without notice.
Marie Herwald Hermann received her MFA from the Royal College of Art, London in 2009. She has exhibited internationally for over a decade and her work is represented in the collections of The Danish Art Foundation, The Denver Art Museum, the Sevres Museum, the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum, the Cranbrook Art Museum, The Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Museum, The Rothschild Collection and Waddesdon Manor.
