Jackson Square has become a revitalized location for the arts in recent years. Joining the neighborhood — alongside Gallery Wendi Norris and the new Pyramid Arts installations in Redwood Transamerica Park — is Rebecca Camacho Presents, at 526 Washington St. Established in lower Nob Hill in 2019, the contemporary art gallery launches in its new home with “I Will Clean the Closet, I Will Climb the Stairs,” an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Anne Buckwalter.
The interior views we peer into via Buckwalter’s works are intimate and specific, giving the viewer the feeling that they’re peeping more than peeking. The way sexuality intrudes into the images — lingerie here, a coupling there, items of erotica hidden in others — challenges our own associations of domesticity, and excitingly so. There’s a cheeky, infectious delight in the hints of naughtiness.
The exhibition also marks the publication of “Laundry Room,” Buckwalter’s first book of poetry, published by Rebecca Camacho Presents.
