Titled SEASONS, the exhibition centers on a suite of four sound paintings; winter, spring, summer, and fall. Each season represented by a distinct hue, the paintings capture the patterns of sunlight created as UV rays meet and interact with their pigmented surface material. Those exposures are then encased in hand-crafted wooden speakers that play Duncan’s new limited edition full-length vinyl record, also titled SEASONS.
The speakers are placed on pedestals wrapped in complimentary exposures with artisan wooden bases. As with the exposure coloration, the type and tone of wood shifts from season to season. The resulting regal forms are striking sculptural combinations that elicit a multifaceted sensory response. Informed by utilitarian art & craft as well as fine art and musical frisson, Duncan expertly captures the beautiful ephemerality of time and environment.
