Explore portrayals of queens and histories of royal feminine power in northern Africa, western Asia, and the Mediterranean throughout the first millennium BCE. Ancient works of sculpture, personal adornment, vessels, gems, coins, and other media highlight the multiple and varied representations of female rulers. This exhibition brings the legacy of these royal women into dialogue with material from the 15th century to the present day, showing how the fragmentary traces of ancient queenship continue to be interpreted, appropriated, and activated.
